The escalation of protesting in Egypt has pushed food prices - particularly wheat and rice prices - higher as North African governments hoard goods in an attempt to curb inflationary pressures. Oil prices also rose to trade above the USD 100 per barrel mark on concerns that shipments through the Suez Canal would be halted while the unrest prevails.
