Old vs smart watches, Apple’s trade-in and Facebook vs Google

Traditional watchmakers don’t seem too bothered by the arrival of the smart watch. That’s at least the impression from dealers at Baselworld, the world's largest watch trade fair, this week, where watches worth hundreds of thousands of dollars make even Apple’s most expensive smart watch seem cheap and cheerful.

While some watchmakers like Breitling are looking to offer limited smart watch features in their models, LVMH Group’s Tag Heuer is the only watchmaker going all in with its own smart watch made in collaboration with Intel and Google, says tech expert Stuart Miles after attending the watch and jewellery fair.

This week, Stuart Miles also looks at Apple’s plans to offer Chinese customers the opportunity to trade in their old iPhone for a discount on a new one as well as Facebook’s latest move to keep its users away from Google.
