Google’s Project Fi, LG vs Samsung and a new must-have gadget

This week, tech expert Stuart Miles looks at why Google is launching its new Project Fi wireless phone service, whether LG’s new smartphone has what it takes to beat Samsung’s S6, and why a cute little robot could turn out to be the must-have gadget of the year.

Google’s Project Fi will allow users to use cellular networks like T-Mobile USA Inc. and Sprint Corp. for voice, text, and data services. According to Stuart, the venture is all about Google getting closer to its users.

In the run-up to the launch of its new smartphone, LG has focused on its fashion design features and new camera. But whether that will be enough for it to compete with Samsung’s S6, which has been getting rave reviews, remains to be seen, says Stuart.

The latest Star Wars movie is widely expected to be the movie of the year and with its release may also come the gadget of the year – a toy version of a new droid called BB-8. Rather than using special effects such as CGI to bring BB-8 to life, Disney and Lucasfilm had a company called Sphero create and build the robot. According to Stuart, the BB-8 toy has the potential to become a must-have for Star Wars and gadget fans of all ages.
