Marine Le Pen squaring up against Francois Fillon in the French election is unlikely due to Fillon’s waning popularity. But Saxo Bank’s head of macro analysis Christopher Dembik says the possible scenario could create a tricky situation for left-wing voters.

May 7 will see the leading two candidates go head-to-head following the first round of the election on April 23.

Dembik explains that it could probably be the hardest head-to-head scenario to predict and consequently would prove to be a bad scenario for markets with the potential for a Le Pen win.
